Today's Blog Post: Different Types of Fasts
by Pastor Chris Hodges-Church of the Highlands Birmingham, AL

"As you set aside the things that feed your natural man and feast on the things that feed your spiritual man, you'll experience God's presence in ways you have never have before. So many people have never fasted before and aren't aware of the many different ways you can fast.

· A Full Fast - means refraining from eating all foods. During this type of fast you can drink water only or include juices. If you are drinking juices, stay away from those with high acidity (such as orange juice) and protein (such as milk). Technically, protein is food (even in liquid form) and would be a violation of this type of fast.

· A Daniel Fast - means refraining from certain foods. This type of fast usually means you eat only fruits and vegetables. Daniel 10:2-3 says, "At that time I, Daniel, mourned for three weeks. I ate no choice food; no meat or wine touched my lips; and I used no lotions at all until the three weeks were over."

· A Partial Fast - means omitting a specific meal each day. One way to partial fast is do a "Jewish fast" - fast all day and then eat the evening meal.

· A Total Fast - means no food or drink. You need to use extreme caution when total fasting and only with your doctor's supervision. It is not recommended that you total fast for long periods of time. Examples of total fasting in the Bible were certainly supernatural.
But it's really not about the food. It's about denying your flesh-man the things that feed it. That's why it's equally important to fast things like TV, movies, music, news, internet, or anything that feeds your flesh-man.
And don't forget to feed your spiritual man. If you starve your flesh and forget to feed your spirit, you've really fasted for nothing. Fasting is a time to have consecrated focus on your relationship with God. Be sure to include special times of prayer, reading the Bible, worshipping, journaling, and rest."

John 3 "Stepping Into The Light"

Nicodemus was a religious leader, a member of the group of Pharisees. He confessed to Jesus that they (the Pharisees) knew He had been sent by God. Although he knew the truth about Jesus, it's apparent he was still searching for more answers, as he came looking to Jesus to question Him. In the cover of darkness, Nicodemus was drawn to the light of Jesus Christ.
John 3:20 NLT

"All who do evil hate the light and refuse to go near for fear their sins will be exposed".

Notice the first step to doing what is right is stepping into the light. Our nature is to not want to be in the spotlight. We feel exposed and vulnerable, but only in Jesus are we safe. Whether it's accepting Jesus for the first time, or perhaps confessing a hidden sin, when we choose to step into the light, an exchange takes place. We exchange our faults and our shame for the light of His mercy and grace.

Is there anything "hidden" in your life that Jesus is calling you to bring into the light? His mercies are fresh every day.
